Overview
Collaborating with models and other photographers is always fun. Tine’s personality fits the moody portrait themes that I had in mind.
The Details
In this photograph, we see Tine standing confidently in front of a simple, one-light setup. Tine is wearing a beautiful dress that drapes elegantly over her curves, with a deep neckline that accentuates her collarbone and delicate necklace.
The one-light setup illuminates Tine’s face and upper body, casting a soft, flattering light over her skin and highlighting the intricate details of her dress. The light is positioned slightly to one side, creating subtle shadows that add depth and dimension to the photograph.
Tine stands with one hand on her hip and the other resting lightly against her thigh, exuding a sense of poise and confidence. Her posture is relaxed, yet elegant, with her head, slightly tilted and a serene expression on her face.
The simplicity of the one-light setup serves to emphasize the beauty of the subject, drawing the viewer’s attention to her delicate features and the intricate details of her dress. The soft, flattering lighting creates a sense of intimacy as if the viewer is witnessing a private moment between the subject and the photographer.
Overall, this photograph captures the timeless elegance and beauty of Tine in a stunning dress, perfectly illuminated by a simple one-light setup. The sense of poise and confidence conveyed by the subject, combined with the intimate and flattering lighting, create a powerful and evocative image that is sure to inspire and captivate viewers.
Gears
I have used the following to achieve these shots:
- Nikon D750, is a very capable full-frame camera that I use in wedding events due to its superb low-light performance
- Nikon AF 80-200 f/2.8 lens, a top pro zoom at the time
Lighting
I have used a shoot-through umbrella and one off-camera flash to achieve these photos. I placed the flash 45 degrees from the model’s perspective.
Posing
Tine can easily follow instructions in posing so I didn’t have any hard time. I asked her to act on certain emotions to make the facial expressions realistic.
Post-production
I used dark, moody tones to convey a message of deep, mixed emotions and indicate drama in my shots.
